To sum up, if we accept the fact that to play, to enjoy and learning are the basic drive of all chess players, our conclusion is that this work will assist enthusiasts of any level to achieve this last goal, that of learning. In this manner, through better knowledge of chess, they will play better and enjoy themselves more. Miguel Illescas
The strategic positioning of pawns is a fundamental issue in chess. The correct location of these across the board allows the pieces to operate in harmony. Because of that, full understanding of the different pawn arrangements provides useful tools which facilitate deeper knowledge of the game. In the present volume, Roberto Grau underlines, amongst other things, the power of united pawns as well as the strength and weaknesses of those pieces that are left behind across the board, during middle stages of the game as well as towards the end. He offers the reader a full explanation about how overtaken pawns can compensate their weakness by taking rival pieces towards the centre. Additionally, he gives guidelines on how to react in those positions involving isolated or dragging pawns.
