.......it should be added that here we find an interesting piece of work, not only for beginners but also for the most advanced because it allows us to check the evolution of the theory of chess, to analyse in greater depth the games of the classics and, in general, to increase our knowledge about the recent history of the game. To sum up, if we accept the fact that to play, to enjoy and learning are the basic drive of all chess players, our conclusion is that this work will assist enthusiasts of any level to acieve this last goal, that of learning. IN this manner, through better knowledge of chess, they will play better and enjoy themselves more. Miguel Illescas
In this last volume of the works, key issues of high strategy are examined in detail, namely : the meeting ground of the various factors which are decisive in a game of chess. Roberto Grau analyses the basic principles that are necessary to consider in order to understand the different positions and to build plans, aspects such as fighting between the knight and the bishop, or the secrets of simplification. He also covers very neatly those terminal positions which are very common in practice, mainly those involving rooks. He summarises the ins and outs of superior strategy by means of numerous examples and demonstrates, through rigorous analysis, the truthfulness of its postulates.
